Charlotte Douglas International Airport is the undisputed economic engine driving business development and job creation in the Charlotte region. Two years ago, Interim Aviation Director Brent Cagle spoke at a Chamber Business Buzz Breakfast, providing an update on a major expansion of the airport, including new parking facilities, a new entrance, highway realignment and many other projects. That long-term airport development plan is coming to completion, and planning is moving rapidly on the next major growth initiative. That makes this the perfect time for another look at our airport, where it is now, its future and especially its role in driving economic development in our region. Making the presentation will be Stuart Hair, who is in charge of economic development at the airport. For the first time in 20 years, the city has an opportunity to plan what should be developed on most of the airport’s 6,000 acres on the west side of the Queen City. “It’s a generational opportunity,” Hair says.
